Job Description
Retail Finance Team Lead to oversee the full financial operations function for retail investment and retirement products. This is a critical leadership role within a fast-paced, regulated environment, requiring a strong technical foundation, attention to detail, and the ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
The duties and responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):
Financial Operations
- Oversee end-to-end financial operations across retail investment and retirement products
- Manage daily banking, investment, and redemption processes with strong control frameworks
- Oversee distribution processing for unit trusts and ETFs, including dividend /interest withholding tax
Regulatory & Tax Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of statutory tax reporting (INS, IT3B, IT3C, IT3S, FATCA/CRS)
- Perform Regulation 28 compliance monitoring for retirement funds
- Manage SARB and FSCA regulatory submissions
Financial Reporting
- Oversee monthly processes including trial balances, billing, and reconciliations
- Manage PAYE calculations and submissions
- Lead year-end financial reporting, audit preparation, and resolution of audit queries
- MI Reporting
Systems & Process Improvement
- Contribute to system design and implementation initiatives
- Drive automation and process improvements across finance operations
- Enhance controls and efficiencies through system and process optimisation
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with Operations Support teams on batch processes (debit orders, income runs, phase-ins, model rebalances)
- Work closely with Service recovery dealing with exception handling
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, auditors, and external service providers
- Prepare trustee reporting packs and present at Trustee Meetings
Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals
- Oversee workload management, performance, and delivery against deadlines
- Foster a culture of accountability, control, and continuous improvement
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified Chartered Accountant – CA(SA)
- 5–8+ years’ experience in financial services, asset management, or investment platforms
- Proven experience in fund accounting, retail investments, or retirement products
- Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g. Regulation 28, FATCA/CRS, Pension Funds Act, FAIS/POPIA)
- Experience managing teams and leading finance operations
- Advanced Excel skills and strong systems aptitude
- Experience with Sage Pastel/ Case-ware
